Size

Terracotta roofs stacked against each other, chimneys, shutters, one yellow wall catching the sun, and an air-conditioner nobody asked for. I made this frame from above in Venice on 26 May 2024, late enough in the day for the tiles to go warm. There is no canal or gondola in it. This is how the city is actually built.

The title belongs to our guide. That same day, inside the Basilica di San Marco, someone asked him how long a thing had been there, and he answered, "since eh.. since eh always." We laughed about it the rest of the afternoon, and I have never found a better caption for these roofs.

The print

  • Professionally printed by me in Austin, Texas, on archival fine-art paper
  • Two sizes: A3+ (13 × 19 in sheet) in an edition of 50, and A2 (16.5 × 23.4 in sheet) in an edition of 25. Each size is its own numbered edition
  • White border. Signed, titled and numbered in pencil below the image, with a signed certificate of authenticity
  • Not printed again at either size once its edition is sold

Presentation

Shown framed the way I would hang it, with a museum mat and a thin natural oak moulding, which suits the warm tiles. Framed, the A2 is about 30 × 23 in and the A3+ about 24 × 17 in. The print ships unframed, flat in a rigid mailer, within 5 business days of your order. Domestic shipping is included.

Framing is optional. If you want it framed, I will contact you after your order to arrange the oak frame shown, a black gallery frame, or a different frame to suit your wall.
